Art Brokerage: William Constable Adam (August 29, 1846 – October 17, 1931) was an English born oil and watercolour painter who spent the last 33 years of his life in California, United States. Adam was born in Tweedmouth on the outskirts of Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1846. He studied under Auguste-Joseph Delecluse in Paris as well as Robert Brydall and Robert Greenlees at the Glasgow School of Art. He spent some time in Buenos Aires before emigrating to Boston, Massachusetts in 1893. He moved to California in the late 19th century, first settling in Monterey in 1898 before moving to Pacific Grove in 1906 where he lived for the rest of his life. He was known as “Professor” Adam and his work focused on the views and landscape of the Monterey area. He also gave art lessons in his rose-covered cottage at 450 Central Avenue.
